Reuse UTStarcom WA3002GA Modem As Wireless Access Point

If you are like one of me who is fed up with BSNL supplied modem like UTStarcom WA3002GA or have a basic modem lying around and UTStarcom WA3002GA modem is acting up when connected to BSNL line. Good news, you can use it as a wireless access point and save some money rather than buying a new Wireless Router. You just need to make some changes to accomplish that.

Steps:

1. Connect one end of Ethernet cable on Laptop / Desktop and other end on the Port1 on your UTStarcom WA3002GA Modem.



2. Now login to your Modem using your favorite browser. Its usually on 192.168.0.1.

                                                            First page should like that.

                   
3. Click on Advanced Setup and under Wide Area Network (WAN) Setup remove all the entries.

                                         It should look like this after you  remove all the entries.

4. Now click on LAN and change the IP Address to 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.0.10, depending on how many devices are on the network. After that disable the DHCP Server and click on save button on bottom of the page. We are disabling the DHCP Server as your system's will get IP from main modem rather than this one.

5. Click on Routing and uncheck "Enable Automatically Assigned Default Gateway". Now check mark "Use Default Gateway IP Address" and enter your main modem's IP address which is normally 192.168.0.1.  After that click on "Save / Apply".

6. Lastly, enable the Wireless and adjust the settings accordingly so that your Laptop / Phone can connect it. After making sure everything is in order, click on "Management" to save your settings and reboot the modem.

Rejoiced, you have now saved a good peace of equipment from being just a paper weight. Happy surfing : )
